Honda Unveils 2015 IndyCar Super Speedway Aero Kit

Honda today debuted the “Super Speedway” aero kit of aerodynamic upgrades and components its teams will use at this year’s 99^th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The Honda Super Speedway Aero Kit, produced by Honda Performance Development, Honda’s racing arm in North America, includes a variety of individual aerodynamic components fitted to the existing Honda-powered Dallara Indy car chassis. All are intended to give Honda’s six Indy car teams – encompassing a potential 17 ‘500’ entrants – the ability to maximize performance at the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval and other large ovals ( over one mile in length) on the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series schedule.

“We’re excited to unveil our Super Speedway aero kit, the newest element in this era of enhanced manufacturer competition in the Verizon IndyCar Series,” said Art St. Cyr, president of HPD. “Coupled to our proven Honda Indy V6 engines, these aero kits are the products of thousands of hours of research, development and testing, as we seek to give our drivers and teams the tools they need to win the race that Honda holds as its most important goal each season: The Indianapolis 500.”

Honda’s Indy car aero kits were developed by utilizing the latest in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology, then validated using Driver-In-Loop (DIL) Simulators. This process minimized waste at the prototype stage, and allowed aerodynamic direction to be determined prior to the creation of full-size components.

Full-scale wind tunnel testing was used to confirm actual aerodynamic performance characteristics and create aero maps to be used during on-track testing. Final proof-of-concept correlation then took place with on-track testing prior to the start of production earlier this year.

The complete Super Speedway Aero Kit provides Honda drivers and teams with a range of configurations to tune the cars to their desired characteristics for Indianapolis, a circuit where fine-tuning is essential to achieve optimum performance.

Honda’s Indy car aero kits will make their public on-track debut during an Open Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 3. Official practice for the Indianapolis 500 opens on Monday, May 11, with the 99^th running of the Indianapolis 500 scheduled for Sunday, May 24.

Kia to Reveal All-New Carnival, Sorento 2015

Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), the distributor of Kia vehicles in the Philippines laid down their plans for 2015 including the launch of two all-new models which are certainly sought-after by Filipino consumers.

“Last year was nothing short of amazing and 2015 will be no different,” said CAC President Ginia Domingo.

This year, Kia is set to unveil the all-new Kia Carnival and Sorento to the market. Although no details have been revealed as of yet, Domingo says that both models carry enhanced performance and a different driving experience to go with the new, top-notch styling.

Aside from the launch of these two new models, CAC will have other programs including After-Sales incentives, a ‘Greener Tomorrow’ project which will have the company participate in tree-planting projects and other eco-driven programs.

And of course, in the area of sports, Kia will continue with its participation in the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) with a new team addition (their import player) to play in the Commissioner’s Cup.

Toyota Alphard 2015

The country’s best-selling luxury van is getting its most daring makeover yet. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the all-new 2015 Alphard. Introduced in its home country of Japan not more than a week ago, the all-new Alphard features a much sharper and aggressive styling to go with a new platform that promises an improved ride and NVH isolation.

Outside, the all-new Alphard looks decisively more aggressive with its overly large chrome grille that extends from the top to the lower part of the bumper. New headlamps and fog lamps complete the look. Observers will be quick to know that the Alphard’s new design echoes other recent JDM (Japan Domestic Models) such as the Crown. At the back, sweeping new tail lights and a larger rear windshield echo the dramatic change.

Inside, it benefits from a reduced seat access height which is lower by 50-mm compared to before. The rear door opening has also been widened by 70-mm for easier ingress/egress. A linear illumination system has been adopted on the ceiling which can be adjusted in both brightness and color (16 available). The gauges now feature a 4.2-inch TFT colored multi-information display sandwiched between the tachometer and speedometer.

At the back, the third row seats has been enlarged in terms of available knee room which Toyota says is largest in its class while a 147-liter storage area located under the luggage room floor improves cargo hauling capability. Along with the sliding third row, the Alphard can now swallow six golf bags (four lengthways, two sideways) can be stored in the luggage room and six items of hand luggage can be packed in the recessed storage space. Other luxury amenities include roller-type sunshades on the rear door and quarter glass windows and an 8-speaker audio system.

Under the Alphard’s much more aggressive skin lies a combination of new and tried-and-tested technology. The engine, the 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 with Dual VVT-i is carried over but a new rear independent Double Wishbone suspension should give the Alphard a much plusher ride to go with its improved NVH. The 3.5-liter V6 is now the Alphard’s sole engine.

The all-new 2015 Alphard is now available in Black and Silver Metallic as well as a new shade, Luxury White Pearl. It’s now priced at P 3,292,000 and is available at all of Toyota’s 44 dealerships nationwide.
